My Journey in Graphic Design: From Italy to Lincoln Memorial University and Beyond!

As a creative problem-solver, I’ve always been drawn to the world of fine arts. Graphic design, with its blend of creativity and visual impact, became my passion during my time at Milligan College. From crafting posters to designing my own typeface, I immersed myself in this dynamic field. In the fall of 2018, my journey took me to Florence, Italy. Living abroad taught me that my artwork is my voice—a reflection of my thoughts and experiences. While stepping out of my comfort zone, I adapted to a new culture while creating art. One massive takeaway I had is that life is about embracing change, especially in our ever-evolving digital landscape.

 

Putting my education from Italy and Milligan into practice, I worked as a junior designer at GreenTech Environmental, where I learned the importance of brand standards. I assisted in updating the company’s brand by creating a typeface for their new logo that conveys a clean and modern aesthetic. I also designed print and online marketing materials to support the company’s brand identity. Paired with my meticulous attention-to-detail and knack for creativity, I designed a magazine summarizing the science behind their commercial products. It also highlighted the company’s commercial offerings, which aided the sales department in product demonstration. This endeavor honed my time management skills, my proficiency in preparing electronic pre-press files, and my coordination abilities with external vendors. 

 

My graphic design talents opened the door to a new opportunity at Lincoln Memorial University as Director of Social Media. I coordinated and posted regularly on University’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn accounts,which resulted in an overall engagement increase of 17.8%. The engagement rate also increased by 54.2%, and the audience grew by 180.2% across all platforms. Furthermore, I collaborated with other members of the Marketing & PR team. Notably, I worked closely with the Director of New Media to create TikToks and Reels. This experience proved insightful for working on a team, where different perspectives lead to effective project solutions. Finally, I was able to improve my leadership abilities by providing guidance to internal departments. These sessions included covering social media best practices, to ensure that such projects were aligned with the university’s strategic plan and mission. 

 

Whether it was creating captivating social media content or crafting an impactful magazine, I have poured my creativity into every piece. It’s been an exciting journey, and I’m ready for whatever the next creative challenge brings!
